Red, White & Blue Order

Sunday the 8th of December 2019. That is when Steven Gerrards Rangers last lost an Old Firm game. Fast forward 6 Old Firms and 17 months later and Rangers have just skelped the other half of the Old Firm 4-1 in the final one of the season.  That's despite missing Helander, Balogun, Katic, Patterson, Bassey, Jack, Zungu, and Arfield to either injury or suspension. That's despite having won the league 2 months ago. That's despite this being framed as Scott Brown's "Last Dance" (more on that later). You could be forgiven going into this game if you were concerned we wouldn't perform to the high standards we've set over the course of the season. Plenty of Rangers teams in the past have won the league with games to spare and then just checked out on the rest of the campaign, often giving the other half of the old firm a glimmer of hope to take into the next season.  Not this team though, and not in this fixture. PENALTIES, CORRUPTION AND SELECTIVE STATISTICS

Following the Derby Day draw, and in line with expectations, the usual fallout following these games has unsurprisingly occurred. The media and social media narrative has been entirely focussed on penalty decisions, referee loyalty, conspiracies and corruption. The game itself was entertaining, with spells of dominance for both sides but also a large number of unforced errors. Personally, and with a bit of bias possibly, I thought we edged it slightly and the draw felt more like a defeat than anything else. I think the reality set in that a win was needed if there was any chance of chasing our rivals down for the league this season and 9 points at this stage seems an unlikely points’ gap to close in the remaining games. Focus should really turn to the beginning of a rebuild for Michael Beale and winning the 2 domestic cups left on offer whilst finishing the league as strong as possible. Show (victims of) Racism the Red Card

 I'll apologise in advance but this isn't my usual style of article. This isn't a piece I've taken a day or two to think over. This isn't analysing the team or tonight's performance, that'll come. This is purely a reactive piece because I'm annoyed. I'm annoyed at the loss, I'm annoyed at the way we didn't leave a man on the post, I'm annoyed this looks like more than a slow start, but most of all I'm annoyed at the complete disregard UEFA give to its players and victims of racism. Sparta Prague were found guilty of their fans racially abusing Monaco's  Aurelien Tchouameni and ordered to play behind closed doors as a result. Now if UEFA really cared about racism they would have kicked them out of the tournament. There is no place for racism in football. Yet UEFA felt a behind closed doors game was the correct punishment.
