Show (victims of) Racism the Red Card

I'll apologise in advance but this isn't my usual style of article. This isn't a piece I've taken a day or two to think over. This isn't analysing the team or tonight's performance, that'll come. This is purely a reactive piece because I'm annoyed.

I'm annoyed at the loss, I'm annoyed at the way we didn't leave a man on the post, I'm annoyed this looks like more than a slow start, but most of all I'm annoyed at the complete disregard UEFA give to its players and victims of racism.

Sparta Prague were found guilty of their fans racially abusing Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni and ordered to play behind closed doors as a result. Now if UEFA really cared about racism they would have kicked them out of the tournament. There is no place for racism in football. Yet UEFA felt a behind closed doors game was the correct punishment. Fair enough.

But then, inexplicably, UEFA decide that this is too much punishment and decide that it would be a good idea to allow 10,000 school children in to watch the match. That match being against Rangers, a match that was already steeped in the racism row with Czech fans exposing Kemar Roofe and Glen Kamara to online racial abuse following the game against Sparta's so-called rivals Slavia. A game where Glen Kamara was racially abused by a Slavia player and subsequently banned for being the victim of racial abuse. Nice one UEFA.

Of course, as was obvious to everyone including UEFA, Glen Kamara was subsequently the victim of abuse from this crowd of children. They booed him, and booed loudly, every time he touched the ball. What a message to send to people of BAME heritage. If you're the victim of racist abuse we'll punish you.

The referee played right into the storyline as well. Giving the crowd exactly what they wanted, sending Kamara off for two incredibly weak bookings. Absolutely pathetic stuff.

Then again can we really expect too much when our own "impartial" news network the BBC are printing reports that say "Rangers took the knee ahead of kick-off against Sparta and have had to bow to their host's superior finishing as the first half concludes"? Disgraceful, and now taken down, but it never should have been printed.

If UEFA ever wanted to prove to the world that "show racism the red card" was just lip service from them, then tonight was the night.

I'm sorry this is such an angry rant article, but I'm angry and I had to put it out there.

  1. Lol man, only two players on which that kids aged 8-14 years booed was sad liar Kamara & Roofe. No other player (or black players) was harmed. Rangers fans are so pathetic grownup kids :D

    2. The pitiful thing is that a racist doesn't know that they are racist especially when it is the norm in that country look up racism in the dictionary and ask yourself honestly is that me. From what I have seen and heard and from the actions that UEFA have taken your country has a massive problem that is obviously being taught to your kids.
